Annual Barn Dance at Stillington Sports and Social Club on Saturday
13th October
Diary of Previous Events and Milestones in 2007 Sponsored/ Family walk at Castle Howard on Monday 7th May
Despite some low clouds the sun shone on us - the righteous
(for getting up early on a Bank Holiday) for our walk around
Castle Howard Estate - and a great day was had by all who came.
It was a really lovely walk with so much variation - bluebell
woods, fishing ponds, hidden villages, grand vistas ( not to
mention bogs and false turnings). For those of us who did the
long walk we were blessed by fantastic views over to the moors
at the top near Slingsby and Debbie's dog Ozzy had a great time
partaking of everyone's packed Lunch - Sue's was the favourite!
Yummy Chicken! After nearly making it rough the whole 12 miles a
few of us girls make a run for it over by the Temple of the Four
Winds ( I don't know about four winds we go a second one!) to
ensure an ice cream before the van left and caught Marny and Ray
having afternoon tea ( don't you know!)
The
Highwayman at Sheriff Hutton made us very welcome for a well
deserved drink afterwards.
This year
best Kid was won by Alex Hill
Best
Walker by Michael Jordan - the whole 12 miles and still a smile
on his face! The booby prize went to Ozzy the dog for being a
fantastic character and surviving being chucked in the cow
trough ( I haven't laughed so much for ages!!)
We have
raised just over
£300.00
and everyone had a lovely time in Steve's memory.

Presentation of cheque from the York Ombudsman on Wednesday 18th October
-
Denise and Gill's childhood friend Celia Denton and her colleagues at
the York Ombudsman office made The Stephen Magson Memorial Trust their
designated Charity for 2005. They held various fund raising events
including a Garden Party, quiz night and book sale and raised a
fantastic total of
£2053.84.
Celia and her colleagues presented the cheque to Denise on 18th October
and we would like to thank them all for contributing such an amazing
boost to our fund.
Barn Dance at Stillington Sports and Social Club - Once again "Fiddlers Wreck" raised the roof at the second Barn Dance at Stillington Sports and Social club and a fantastic night was had by all. Tony Neary home made steak pies went down a treat and Tim Chapman's mush peas a great improvement on last years ( thanks to Audrey Chapman for her secret recipe and guidance). We would like to thank Fiddlers Wreck for once again providing their services for free, to John Neary for the pies and to Dennis North and the staff at Stillingotn Sports and social club for the terrific venue. We raised just over £800.00 ( brilliant). Raised £807.41 Tool Kits - On Wednesday 4th October we presented our second tool kit to the new apprentice who has just started at the York Minster Stone Yard - Matthew Cook. This year the money for the tool kit was kindly donated by Steve's sisters Kay Crawford and Sandra Alderson and brother in law Tom Crawford. Sandra and Kay presented the tool kit to Mathew and then we all enjoyed an impromptu trip up the east window with the stone Yard manager Steve Mills "Hope after the Tsunami " Poetry evening on 28th September 2003 at the Riding Lights Theatre at Friargate. - This proved to be a very special evening of tears and laughter and wonderful contributions' from all the poets and readers. Our special thanks to Jayne Dywer and Antony Dunn for organising the event and to Nigel Forde and Pete Morgan the headlining poets for giving so generously of tier time and talent. Raised £506.48 - Photos on in the Gallery St Crux - Wednesday 12th July - What a fantastic fund raiser day we had at St Crux. We were so lucky with the weather it being the most sweltering day in the most sweltering month in Britain’s history. Lots of folk parched for a cup of tea and desperate to get their hands on Alison Brindley’s delicious strawberry Gateaux or some “ quality” bric a brac. Dennis and Marny did a sterling job on the stall and the kitchen ladies kept the kettle brewing all day. In the end we had to fight them off so that we could clear up and we made just over a grand! Result! Our thanks to everyone who helped on the day and especially to Greg Harrand for his loan of the van. Dragon Boat Race – Sunday 4th July - We ran a “Jacket Potato “ Stall at York Rotary Club Dragon Boat Race. Personally I never want to see another jacket potato in my life and various factors led to the day been only moderately successful financially, however the sun shone and all who purchased said the food was delicious and we all very much enjoyed the day. Raised £1,050.54
Sponsored Walk May 1st 2006 -
Another very
successful sponsored walk was held this year to Ingleton to do the falls
walk. The weather could have been kinder – but it also could have been
crueller. We had a great session in the pub afterwards. The best kid
trophy was won this year by Declan Dwyer and best walker by Mabel Holmes
(who last year was carried most of the way round but this year walked!)
Dennis law was crowned champion fund raiser for the second year running
for his sterling efforts at selling hand crafted walking sticks. A new
prize was added “ Muddiest trousers” won by Sophie Green.
See lots of photos of the walk in The Gallery.
Raised £1,329.17
