The
Stephen Magson Memorial Trust has now
finished actively fund raising. Since Steve lost his life in the Asian Tsunami
his family, friends and supporters have raised a grand total of £25,000.00 in
his memory. This does not mean, however, that we have finished the trust. Some
of the money raised has already been spent (see our projects page) and the
remainder has been invested so that we can continue to support our projects both
in Thailand and here in York.
We will
continue to support our orphans Sittipong 13 and Roodimat 6 until they have
finished their education at 18. They lost both parents in the Tsunami on Phi Phi
Island and now live with their grandmother in Krabi on the mainland. Our
sponsorship is made possible by the Sriphong Phukaoluan Foundation who do
fantastic work to help support victims of the Tsunami in the area where Steve
also lost his life.
Steve was a Stone Mason at the York Minster
when he left school. In his memory we support the Minister Stone Yard by
supplying a tool kit to the stone mason apprentice’s as they begin their
training. The latest apprentice who received his tool kit in February is David
Hearn, and we wish him every success in his career.
We also supply an annual prize in Steve’s name
to the BCIS School in Phuket in Thailand. Two children at the school who have
performed well in design, each receive a prize, and are given £200 by the trust
to donate to a charity on the Island
On a personal note the Trust has been a wonderful
way for India and I to keep Steve’s memory alive and to help us come to terms
with what happened on Boxing Day 2004.
Finally we would like to take this opportunity
to thank everyone who have donated and supported us during the last three years.
